[...] Suddenly the doors of the elevator facing the foyer open. Two men are sitting in it [...] Together they sing a German song: "Abendlich schon rauscht der Wald" [...] One of them is embroidering something on the back of the other. Pinpricks and thread cover the bare skin with a pattern. The cruelty is not striking, but lies in the incidental nature of what happens. The unsettled audience is now carefully discovering their space. It rides in the elevator with the singers, conquers the staircase when a trumpet plays from outside. The same melody as in the elevator, played by a performer on the overgrown property next door. It can also be heard from a vocal trio further down the stairs. “Schauernd hört der Wanderer zu, sehnt sich tief nach Hause” […] That fits the wandering audience, which follows the melody almost longingly from place to place - only to be driven on to the next place by its abrupt break-off, so that there is never a point of rest. Not even at the LED fire, for which individual groups are allowed to go into the stage hall for a few minutes. The performance aims to expose rural life and the associated romantic ideas as an illusion. Conjured up by people living in cities during industrialization [...] However, it is much more interesting how the abstract construct concentrates in feelings [...]: uncertainty, confusion, disappointment that “arriving” is an illusion.
